Saint James Westminster Church Foundation
What is it?
The Foundation was established by the parish of Saint James Westminster, London, in 1988 to receive and manage funds dedicated to ensuring a stable future for the parish’s outreach, programs and buildings.
Why is it needed?
The Foundation provides a financial resource to enhance our ability to be generous in our community and beyond, to sustain and enhance innovative programs and ministry and to ensure the preservation of our historic buildings. It is a fund designed to supplement what the parish can do beyond member givings.
Who is responsible?
The regular management of the Foundation and its assets is undertaken by a volunteer board of eight Directors and the Rector of the parish which reports at least annually to the Members of the Foundation who are the Parish Council. It also reports to the annual meeting of Vestry of the parish.
How does it work?
The Foundation receives and invests funds, the capital of which is held in trust by the Foundation while the net income is disbursed annually.
Applications for grants from the Foundation are encouraged and received annually by September 30. The Grants Committee, consisting of Directors and members of the parish’s Outreach Committee, reviews and makes recommendations to Foundation Members for approval for each year’s distribution.
Whom have we supported?
Since its inception in 1988, the Foundation has disbursed nearly $1.4 million to over 50 separate charitable organizations in the London community and beyond. As the parish’s outreach arm, it annually supports school and community breakfast programs, Christian education and youth programs and theological education. A sampling of other agencies supported includes: Women’s Community House, London Interfaith Counselling Centre, Huron University College, Community Living London, Huron Diocesan Archives, Aids Committee of London, Huron Church Camp, Madame Vanier Children’s Services and the South American Missionary Society.
