Saint James Green Team

Mission Statement
Our role is to help make the St James community and the rest of the world a greener, healthier, more equitable place, thereby being good caretakers of Creation. The Green Team tries to accomplish this in three ways: education, advocacy, and facilitating action.
What has Saint James accomplished to date
- Conducted an energy audit of the building
- Switched to CFL light bulbs where possible
- Installed timers on washroom lights and Rose Window light
- Replaced all but 4 windows in parish hall and offices with double glazed low-E window units
- Organized an Earth Day service in April
- Installed heat miser automatic timers on both heating systems
- Rerouted heating system to make it more efficient
- Installed automatic light timer in main public washroom area
- Switched to recycled paper products for bulletins, office use and photocopier
- Installed a compost bin behind the shed
- Distributed recycling bins throughout the building
- Now using Fair Trade coffee at coffee hours and events
- Altered water timers to make more judicious use of water
- Eliminated pesticide use property wide
- Posted reminders to turn outh lights throughout the building
What we are working on
- Encouraging those using our facilities to use as few disposable products as possible
- Partnering with ReForest London for tree planting
- Involving youth and children in our activities
- Church-wide education projects
