Stephen Holowitz, the Director of Music for St. James, assumed his post in January, 2001. He had directed the music in our neighbouring parish, St. Michael and All Angels, for the previous fourteen years. His wife, Teresa, is an Anglican priest, and they have a son, Adam.
Stephen moved to London from Thunder Bay in 1983, where he completed a Bachelor of Music in Performance (Organ and Church Music) and a Bachelor of Education (Music, Dramatic Arts) from The University of western Ontario. He has been a music teacher at A.B. Lucas Secondary School since 1988, and is often seen in London as a keyboard performer, notably in the "Missa Gaia" at Wesley-Knox, and in the "Mass of All Creatures" performed annually at St. Paul‚s Cathedral. Stephen has recorded two CDs of original arrangements of traditional hymns and gospel music.
As well as his appointment at St. Michael's, Stephen was organist at Christ Anglican Church for three years, and Acting Director of Chapel Music at Huron College for one year.
